Stephen W. Jolly, PhD
Biography
Dr.
Steve Jolly earned his BS in chemistry for Bowling Green State
University in 1977. Dr.
Jolly then entered into the service of our nation by joining the US Army
where he served as an officer in the Field Artillery branch.
Steve had duty assignments throughout the United States and
served one year in the Republic of Turkey as a Special Weapons Team
leader.
Steve left the US Army and entered graduate school at The University of
Akron’s Polymer Science program in 1989.
Steve studied under the direction of Professor James Harwood and
graduated in 1993 with a PhD degree in Polymer Science.
He joined Ferro Corporations Specialty Plastics Group as a Research
Chemist in 1994 where he developed improved glass-polypropylene coupling
systems, color master batch systems for PET resins and learned about
custom compounding polypropylene.
Dr. Jolly was promoted to New Product Development Leader in 1998 for the
color and Dispersion business located in Stryker, Ohio.
Steve coordinated and managed the new product development
activities for the USA and 3 European color master-batch/color
concentrate businesses.
There he advanced to the Group Technology Director position in 2000
where he managed the technology portfolio for the Specialty Plastics
Groups 5 main businesses, color concentrates, polypropylene compounds,
liquid color and dispersions, Gel-coat and thermoplastic elastomers.
Dr. Jolly remained at this position until 2006 when he decided to
explore other interests.
Dr. Steve Jolly joined Plastech Consulting, Inc. in early 2007 where he
advises clients on all polymer related activities, including material
selection, market studies, and polymer compound development.
Dr. Jolly joined PolymerOhio as an associate in April 2007 where he provides networking and connecting activities, and professional services. These professional services include: material selection recommendations, identifies material sources and manufacturers, identifies suitable manufacturing processes and manufacturing companies, conducts technology assessments. Steve also conducts PolymerOhio membership outreach activities by calling Ohio companies and presenting the benefits of joining the PolymerOhio networking organization.
