BIOGRAPHY

 

Imre Balogh was seventeen years old when he joined thousands of other young Hungarians in Budapest in the street-to-street fighting that became the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. 
 
Although wounded and later jailed, Imre managed to escape to Yugoslavia and from there joined the U.S. Army. His path to U.S. citizenship came after five years of U.S. military service in Korea and Japan. Mr. Balogh settled in Cleveland, Ohio where he pursued engineering studies. 
 
In 1970, he started Mar-Bal, Inc. a molder of electrical components and a leading manufacturer of thermoset material and components. 
 
The company supplies high temperature plastic materials and custom-molded products to appliance and industrial manufacturers.  Mar-Bal, Inc. has four locations and employs over 500 people. 
 
Mr. Balogh has been active in the Hungarian community since the early 1960’s.  His major involvements have been:
 
Hungarian Cultural Center of Northeast Ohio (Formerly the Geauga Magyar Club) - Former President; Facilitated purchase of organization’s permanent home in Hiram, Ohio
 
Cleveland Hungarian Development Panel:

Economic Development Committee – participated in 2 trips to Hungary to develop exchanges in biomedical sciences.  Accompanied by Cleveland Clinic, BioEnterprise, and Case Western Reserve University

Hosted visit by Hungarian Research Doctors to Cleveland facilities

Hosted Little League baseball team to visit Cleveland – First baseball team from Hungary, Debrecen Tiger Kids, to visit the U.S

Advisory Board for Ohio University/University of Pecs, International Business Program

Participated in International Children’s Games in Cleveland – Team Hungary

Participates annually in Paprika, a fundraiser for the Cleveland Hungarian Development Panel

Hosted Hungarian Mayors visit to Cleveland, Ohio

Co-Chair 50th Anniversary Committee for the 1956 Revolution

Chaired the Freedom Statue Committee to erect a permanent, tangible  symbol of the 1956 Revolution in Mindszenty Plaza, Cleveland, Ohio
